Joe Mascinter (CEO & Founder)
Our Founders Mission
My fervor and motivation stem from a personal journey marked by self-inflicted pain during nearly a decade of battling addiction. From the seemingly innocent beginnings of recreational “fun” and experimentation, my life spiraled into an unrecognizable existence where all potential for a fulfilling life appeared to fade away.
At the age of 16, I experienced my first drug-related hospitalization, followed by my initial stint in rehab at 23. However, sobriety only found me at the age of 26, after a tumultuous period filled with substances like Xanax, cocaine, oxycodone, and, ultimately, heroin. Between the ages of 23 and 26, I underwent treatment four times, faced numerous seizures, and encountered near-death experiences. Despite these harrowing episodes, the grip of addiction persisted until my sanity was restored, leaving me with nothing but the unwavering support of my family.
Sobriety marked the beginning, and although my heart acknowledged the necessity to abstain from drugs and alcohol, my mind incessantly pushed for their allure. A relentless internal tug-of-war ensued, forcing me to rely on individualized guidance from those who had successfully navigated similar paths. Navigating the sober living world became a challenge for me since I spent three years of my life going back and forth between treatment centers. It became evident that the facilities I encountered lacked standardized practices and had minimal oversight, particularly during the initial stages. The transition from a detox/rehab facility to a sober living facility felt like an overwhelming leap. After my forth sober living facility, I began to feel clear in the head but was stuck in the redundancies of treatment programming. I leaned into the gym, meditation, 12 step programs and nutritional experimentation to set and achieve micro-goals. The fundamental lessons of discomfort, trust, faith, and execution led me to finally taking agency over my own life and developed the state of confidence that comes with that achievement.
I am driven by a desire to share my experiences and insights with families navigating the complexities of addiction treatment. While I acknowledge the shortcomings of the treatment industry, I also recognize the incredible individuals and programs that are making a difference. My mission is to advocate for greater accountability and transparency within the industry, ensuring that families have access to trustworthy and effective treatment options. Through education, advocacy, and individualized support, I am committed to empowering families and individuals on their journey towards recovery and healing.
Although I have qualms with the treatment industry, I believe it is most important to note that there are some amazing individuals and treatment programs out there. The tricky part falls on the families, as they need to have a level of confidence and trust in a program.
